Talk about in-the-moment photography! Lots of coordination with the groom and his friend to make sure I was in the right place at the right time, as well as talking with the helpful staff at the Pink Door. It didn't hurt that it was the perfect setting in a beautiful restaurant.
It was a cold and wet January day in Seattle, but that didn't stop this happy couple from braving the weather for some great photos. Initially, there was apprehension about going outdoors on a 43 F day with rain. But I suggested warm coats and a clear umbrella, and it worked out great. The umbrella actually helped us make it a "Seattle" day by using the rain to make it feel that we were really in Seattle! (Plus, the clear umbrella protected the couple while letting in plenty of light!)
This wedding happened a while back, but I never got around to posting the photos. As I went through the photos, I was really pleased with them... It was at The Golf Club at Newcastle, a country club with a scenic setting and an outdoor tent for the ceremony at the top of a large hill overlooking Seattle.
I had the pleasure of photographing a surprise engagement proposal as it happened. The couple had flown in from the Bay Area to take in a weekend in Seattle. The future groom and I worked out a plan for when to both show up at Kerry Park. Then I shot away using a long lens to stay out of sight. After the proposal, we went down to the Space Needle and the EMP (Experience Music Project) to take some more photos.
